Kate Dunstan is an active person. As a dog owner, she says getting outside every day is not an option! As a working Mum to a 3.5 year old, she also doesn't have a lot of free time. "The times I get outside are very important," she says. "Not only physically, but also for my mental wellbeing. As a busy person, you need that time and space for yourself."
Kate started using our app after reading a tweet about it from @cotteridgepark. Although her husband seemed skeptical that she could earn enough points to make any difference, Kate was on a mission. "I was determined to get a voucher for John Lewis and buy myself something nice, just to show my husband that it could be done! I found using the app very simple and it was great to track stuff I do anyway. After a few weeks I was motivated to get outside and walk around at lunchtime as well, and visit new parks and areas that I hadn't been to before on weekend outings with my family." After just a month, Kate had accumulated over 5000 points! "Although I had planned to get myself a John Lewis voucher, when the time came I thought, why don't I donate these points to Cotteridge Park? I'm so lucky to live in an area with so many beautiful green spaces, and this helps me and others. There are so many people giving their time to keep the parks going, and since I just don't have that to spare, this is a great way for me to give back to my community and do something for myself as well.
Kate says that she believes almost anyone could get started using the app. "Getting out there is the hard part...especially in bad weather. But once you're outside, going at your own pace, it changes everything."
