BetterPoints turns drivers into cyclists in Reading

30 April 2017

We're working with Reading Council to encourage drivers to ditch their cars and commute to work by bicycle instead.

Participants of BikeSmart Reading can earn points by using our app, which tracks their cycling automatically. There are also monthly prize draws for cycling more than one mile every time they take a trip.

The programme is delivered by Avanti Cycling, ReadyBike, Love to Ride and Betterpoints, in partnership with Reading Borough Council.

'I've been using my bike to get to and from work, which takes me approximately 20 minutes each way - which is 20 minutes faster than the bus,' says Sharon, a BikeSmart Reading user.

'I find active travel also helps keep me fit and healthy.'

Councillor Tony Page, lead member for Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport, said:

'BikeSmart Reading is an excellent initiative for encouraging people to get out of their cars and onto their bikes.

'The scheme offers some great incentives for cycling; plus, there is the added bonus of avoiding driving on busy town centre roads and finding parking.'

People who don't own a bicycle can still take part by using the ReadyBike cycle-hire scheme, which has docking stations throughout the town.
